What's in Store
Kind of Project: Props and Set Fabrication
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator
This production of “What’s in Store” was a part of Pegasus Play Lab, a month long workshop where playwrights have the opportunity to see how their newly written plays perform on stage. “What’s in Store” revolves around a store named “DuKTiG”, which is basically like an IKEA. The play playfully addresses/pokes at key themes such as capitalism, the housing crisis, and society’s need for community. As the assistant scenic designer, I was in charge of designing the graphics, graphic fabrication, and the upholstery of some of the set pieces. My goal for the graphics were to embody IKEA's minimalist style in order to make the audience feel like they really were in a store just like it.
Pictured above are several props that I designed and fabricated for the show. This includes: Price tags that were designed to mimic IKEA tags, beer box and bottle wraps, advertisement flyers that double as pregnancy tests, an employee badge, popcorn wraps, sale posters, and an upholstered headboard and frame of a bed.
