Ollie's Pick-a-Stick

Kind of Experience: Themed Food Cart

Programs Used: Procreate

During my Collaborative Studio class at UCF, we were placed into a group of 9 people and tasked to design an entire land. In short, our land can be described as a mix of Morocco, the Lost City of Atlantis and the World Fair. A description goes as follows: "You have been invited by the Keepers to come explore the Deep Current Outpost, a piece of the underwater civilization of Kay’aman that rises to surface level every lunar new year. To celebrate the annual surfacing of the Outpost, the Kayamani people have prepared a cultural celebration with the intent of achieving inter-cultural connection. Experience aspects of their life underwater in this mini exhibition that’s been brought from the depths to share."

As the prop designer for the project, I decided to take on designing one of the food carts in our land. I had two main goals for this design: 1.) Create an area that would serve as a place for humans to share their culture with the Kayamani people. 2.) Create a food and beverage location that has more Americanized food options for our younger guests and people with lower range diets. This led to the creation of Ollie's Pick-a-Stick, where a man named Ollie has decided to share the ultimate "human delicacies" with the Kayamani people, also known as food on a stick. Every lunar new year when the land mass resurfaces, Ollie packs up all of his things and sets up shop on the outpost. He's a bit quirky but has a heart of gold and a sense of adventure, guests can even see all of the other places he's been from the stickers on his cart! Guests could find potential food options such as corn dogs, chicken nuggets on a stick, sliced up potatoes on a stick, and pretzels on a stick.
